BAND OF BROKEN BROTHERS:

Bernie Sanders betrays Dr. West and the American people

I’m feeling a tad sad and guilty at what Bernie has become.

Sad for obvious reasons; guilty because I literally talked to hundreds of people and convinced them to vote for him.

I poured my heart and soul into his campaigns, especially when he ran in 2016 and really stood a chance.

I donated thousands of dollars between his two campaigns (shame on me), wrote dozens of opinion columns and published them on Medium.com to convince people he was the real deal, i.e. not a corporate Dem despite running in the Democratic Party primary.

I even did a radio interview with a Canadian radio station defending Bernie, and I also was interviewed by The Boston Globe on why I felt Bernie was not your typical Dem.

(I even lined-up FB friends for the Boston Globe to interview).

I was invited to an invitation-only Detroit debate between Bernie and Hillary (took a day off from work) and was considered by network executives to ask both candidates a question on-air related to public education on a nationally televised program.

To say I feel betrayed by Bernie is an understatement.

I should have known better. After all, he was running as a Dem in their corrupt primary, although at the time I didn’t realize just how corrupt the Dems were.

You’re probably thinking, “Well, you now are supporting Dr. Cornel West. Can’t the same happen with him as with Bernie?”

No. There is a big difference …and a hard lesson I had to learn.

We cannot FIX the system from within, as I once thought.

It is rotten to the core, and it cannot be fixed.

We HAVE to fix it from the outside, meaning voting for someone brave enough to run Third Party. Bernie lacked that backbone.

Cornel West, who supported both of Bernie’s two presidential runs as a surrogate — traversing the country and speaking in support of “Brother Bernie” — now finds himself betrayed by Bernie, who has said in recent interviews he does not support West’s Third Party candidacy.

I feel this betrayal by Bernie deeply.

It’s not enough to wake people up to the injustices done to them by a corrupt government.

If you are not willing to go the distance to change the plight of millions of suffering Americans, you are no better than the two parties that oppress them.

You just aren’t.

I used to feel that Obama betrayed millions the most, then AOC.

Now, sadly, I feel Bernie is the real Judas.

How I wish I could find a way to burn the dozen Bernie shirts I have, to remove the bumper stickers in support of him from my car, to get back the thousands I donated to him, to unspeak every word I said in support of him.

How I wish I wasn’t so foolish….
